Abstrak

Feed is the main component determining the success of aquaculture; therefore, high-quality and cost-effective feed ingredients are essential. This study aimed to utilize fish waste as a raw material for fishmeal in artificial feed production and to evaluate the characteristics of the fishmeal, the quality of the artificial feed, the weekly weight growth of catfish (Pangasius pangasius), and the Survival Rate (SR). The research was conducted from April to June 2026 at the Fisheries Laboratory, Faculty of Science and Technology, Universitas Nias. Fish waste was processed through washing, steaming, drying, grinding, and sieving to produce fishmeal, which was then formulated into artificial feed. The results showed that 686 g of fishmeal was produced, characterized by a light brown color, fine texture, and a distinctive fish aroma. The artificial feed produced weighed 1,000 g and consisted of pellets with a compact texture and relatively uniform size. The average fish weight increased from 4.70 g to 7.78 g over ten weeks of rearing. The Survival Rate (SR) reached 90%, indicating a relatively high survival rate. These findings demonstrate that fish waste has considerable potential as an alternative raw material for artificial feed, supporting the growth of catfish and promoting more sustainable aquaculture practices.
